What is the purpose of the Lift study?

Experiencing a serious stressor or illness is really challenging.  As people start to move forward, they often begin to experience new worries about work, family, and what to expect in the future.  So it’s no surprise that these stresses often cause feelings of depression, anxiety, and even PTSD that can last for months to years.

Few programs exist to help people recover from a serious stressor or illness.  You might expect that there are lots of programs available to help with these issues.   Unfortunately, this is not the case.  That is why we’ve developed the LIFT program.

The LIFT program is designed especially for people like you.   LIFT is a new self-guided treatment program that aims to improve your quality of life, reduce your symptoms, help you gain independence quicker, and build stronger relationships with people who are important to you.  LIFT uses a mobile app to deliver automated yet personalized support to people like yourself.

The purpose of the LIFT study.  The LIFT program could represent a way for many hundreds of thousands of people across the country to recover more completely…and faster.  But first we have to determine which of 8 slightly different versions of LIFT works best in a research study.

What happens in the Lift study after I have signed up?

The LIFT study is easy.  It just takes 10 minutes a day for only 1 month!

Step 1: Just after you leave the hospital, the LIFT app will send you an alert to complete a brief survey (Survey 1, Part A).  This will determine if you qualify for the study.

Step 2:  If you qualify, you will be randomly assigned to 1 of the 8 versions of LIFT.  The app will tell you which one—and what to expect.  Everybody gets to use the LIFT program!

Step 3:  Then you use the LIFT app each day at your convenience for 1 month.  You’ll answer a few short surveys through the app at the end of that month, as well as 2 months later.  Then you’re done!
